HRH Prince William, The Duke of Cornwall has today launched the Princetown Community Fund, a new £250,000 community-led fund that will support projects delivering lasting social, economic and environmental benefits for local people across Princetown and the surrounding Dartmoor area.
The fund forms part of the Duchy of Cornwall's long-term commitment to the future of Princetown and wider Dartmoor, giving local people, businesses and community groups the support they need to get projects off the ground – with an emphasis on areas that matter most to local people in Princetown.
The launch of the new fund follows The Duke’s announcement in June of a £1.5 million investment package for Princetown and Dartmoor. Recognising the role HMP Dartmoor plays in the local area, The Duke decided that income received through its lease should not be retained by The Duchy and instead be returned to the community through a programme of local investment.
The Princetown Community Fund is one of the first major initiatives to be delivered through that commitment, with further investment planned to support environmental recovery, innovation, job creation and visible improvements across Princetown.
The fund has been shaped by extensive community engagement carried out through the Princetown Place Strategy and the Encounters Shop initiative, in which residents earlier this year shared their ambitions for the village and neighbouring areas.
Those conversations have helped identify the biggest opportunities for investment and will continue to guide decision-making as the fund develops.
The Duke of Cornwall marked the launch of the fund during a visit to Princetown on 15th September, which included a visit to Gather & Moor, the town’s new community, visitor and cultural hub, established by the Duchy of Cornwall.

Applications Now Open
The fund will offer two levels of support. Smaller grants of between £500 and £5,999 will be available on a rolling basis until the end of February, while applications for larger grants of between £6,000 and £40,000 will be open until 15 December.
The fund is open to eligible voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations, including charities and CICs, whose projects will benefit Princetown.
