Duchy Offices and Staff

The headquarters of the Duchy is at 10 Buckingham Gate, London, opposite Buckingham Palace and just across St.James’ Park from the Prince of Wales’ office at Clarence House. The London offices have been there since the building’s construction in 1857 when the Duchy moved out of offices in Somerset House. This is where the Secretary and Keeper of the Records has his office and support staff. Meetings of The Prince’s Council often take place in the Council Room.

The Rural Portfolio is managed in four geographical districts from offices on St. Mary’s in the Isles of Scilly; in Liskeard, Cornwall; in Newton St. Loe near Bath and at Dewsall near Hereford. There are satellite offices in Princetown on Dartmoor, and at Poundbury.

The largest office is that at Newton St. Loe, near Bath. Not only is this the headquarters of the Eastern District, which covers the estates in Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, but it is also home to centralised finance and property services teams, and the Estate Surveyor who manages the commercial property portfolio, the development sites, and the Kennington estate.

Overall the Duchy employs 105 staff. These include Chartered Surveyors, Chartered Building Surveyors, Accountants, a Forester, an Archivist, office support staff, a Harbour Master and quay workers, and the Nursery Manager and team.
