The Duchess of Cornwall
The Duchess of Cornwall supports The Duke in his work and role as Heir to The Throne in addition to supporting a number of her own charities as President or Patron.
As the title Duke of Cornwall goes to the eldest son of the Sovereign, the male Heir to the Throne, the title Duchess of Cornwall automatically applies to the wife of The Duke.
The Duchess was born Camilla Rosemary Shand on 17th July 1947 at King’s College Hospital, London, the eldest of three children.
The Duchess was first educated at Dumbrells School, a co-ed school in Sussex, and then attended Queen’s Gate School in South Kensington. She also attended Mon Fertile finishing school in Switzerland and studied at the Institut Britannique in Paris.
She has two children from her marriage to Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles, Thomas Henry and Laura Rose, born in 1974 and 1978 respectively. The marriage was dissolved in 1995.
On 9th April 2005, The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall were married in a civil ceremony at the Guildhall, Windsor.
Around 20 long-term tenants of the Duchy were invited to the Service of Prayer and Dedication at St George’s Chapel and the reception at Windsor Castle.
Since their wedding, The Duke and The Duchess have undertaken many engagements together across the country and first visited Cornwall together on 20th May 2005.
The Duchess has been involved with the National Osteoporosis Society for many years, first as Patron and now as President. Both her mother and grandmother died as a result of osteoporosis and she has visited bone units and hospitals up and down the country in an effort to raise awareness of the fragile bone disease.
